Let the Spring Season Begin!

The spring semester is in full swing and we have a promising season ahead of us! Last week we started classes and had our first couple of practices. This was very exciting because we had a lot of girls return after being gone fall semester, so we got our full squad together for the first time!

This weekend we kicked off tournament season by hosting our annual indoor tournament, Trouble in the Bubble. This year we had eight women’s teams – a combination of high schools, colleges, and club women – come from around the twin cities area to play on our awesome new turf field! We also made history as this tournament was the first event EVER to be held in the new dome!

The Ninjas spent most of the weekend splitting up and playing with other teams that needed a few more players, and we got to play a few games with just Ninjas as well. It was a great experience for all of our players to get to know other women in the ultimate community, practice playing with other teams, and especially for our new girls just to get lots of playing time! And of course it was a great time for lots of team bonding!

We had quite a few high school parents come up to us this weekend and thank us for putting on the tournament and giving young women this opportunity to play with and learn from older players, get more experience and have fun! This really meant a lot to us and we're glad the participants enjoyed the tournament because we had a blast doing it!

Our next big tournaments aren't until March, so until then we'll be buckling down and training hard! We had such a good season last year, and we can't wait to come back and show 'em what we've got this year!!

TROUBLE IN THE BUBBLE!

Hey all you Ninja sports fans!

Hope you all are enjoying the New Year so far. 2011 was a good year for the Ninjas. We enjoyed a fruitful spring, winning the Chicago invite and finishing 6th overall in the North Central Region. Fall of 2011 has been equally as prosperous, awarding us with several new promising players who carried us to victory at Exit 69 2011. We are looking forward to 2012 and all the adventures and challenges in store for us. We are very excited for our busy spring tournament schedule:

January 21 and 22 the Ninjas will be hosting our annual indoor tournament, Trouble in the Bubble, this year in the new Beirman Turf Dome on our Minneapolis campus. The tournament will host 6 college and 6 high school teams for competitive, fun play and clinic workshops.

March will be a busy month for the Ninjas.
On March 3rd and 4th we will be in St. Louis for Midwest Throwdown.
We start our our Spring break on the 10th at the Music City Mash-up in Nashville, TN and hope to spend the rest of the week at High Tide, session II, in Brunswick, GA. Then after one week off to study and (hopefully) do laundry, we end our busy month on the 31st in Chicago for the Chicago Invite.

1st Practice Tomorrow!!

Hey Ninja sports fans!

Tomorrow is our first official practice of our Fall 2011 season! We will be practicing from 4-6 on the West Bank Law Fields on the West bank of the U of M campus. If you want to practice with us, please fill out the Sports Clubs Participation Waiver prior to practice. It can be found here on the right side of the page under "Other information". Please bring a water bottle, cleats or outdoor running shoes, a disc if you have one and a black and white shirt.

No Practice week of 9.12.11!

Alright, here's the skinny on this week. The officers are working their butts off trying to get all of the paperwork together so we can hold an official practice but until all the bureaucratic nonsense is complete we can't officially practice as a team. HOWEVER... we will be at the Student Union Activities Fair coming up this Wednesday (9.14) from 10am-2pm at Coffman Memorial Union. We will most likely be throwing a disc and wearing our stunna Ninja jerseys so come find us and say hey! We are trying to get practices going as soon as possible but until then we also will have a throwing date every Friday from 11-2 on the mall so come throw with us!

Remember, a good frisbee player is never without her disc. So don't let me catch you out on campus without yours!

FALL 2011 PRACTICE TIMES

Here it is! What we have all been waiting for: Your Fall 2011 Ninja Womens Ultimate Disc Club Practice Schedule! (Please note that all time and locations are subject to change, which means you should always check your email before practice! Not on the email list? Email gotch007@umn.edu to be added!)

Monday and Wednesday: 4-6pm at the West Bank Law Fields.
Sunday : 6-8pm at TCF Bank Stadium

We will also most likely be having an additional practice for conditioning and sprinting. Time and place TBD.

If you are interested in being a Ninja, we would love to have you come and try out! The first try outs will be Monday September 12th from 4-6pm and Wednesday the 14th also from 4-6pm. Hey all you Ninja sports fans! I hope you all had a fantastic summer. It's back to school time once again which means its time for Ninja Ultimate! We have an exciting year ahead of us which is sure to be full of growth and change as more than half of our team either graduated last year or is studying abroad this fall. We will be having try-outs for all of you hopeful ladies coming up in just a few short weeks so check back here soon for more information. Regionals has been moved to Madison! Lucky for us we have some wonderful Ninja parents who will be hosting the team on short notice this weekend (thanks Jim and Mary Just)! Ninjas Head to Regionals!

After some unforeseen weather conditions the Ninjas made it down to Cedar Falls, Iowa this past weekend!

Stepping out of the van and onto the field on Saturday the team was greeted with 20-30 mph winds that continued through out the majority of the day. After some incredible team work the Ninjas won all four games on Saturday.

Sunday was pleasantly less windy and the sun even came out long enough to cause a few ninjas to put on some sunscreen :). The day turned out to be more challenging but the Ninjas left the day proud of how they played and excited about securing their bid to Regionals!

Today we had an awesome scrimmage against a few of Minneapolis' finest club women. It was a bit windy but still totally fun. Here's a little video of a few highlights of the game.

A Very Ninja Weekend

What a weekend! I am proud of all my Ninjas and how we played and kept fighting in those last few games. We went 7-1 this weekend, losing only to Wash U (a college nationals level team)! Earning 9th overall.

The Tournament: Saturday was wet, cold, and rainy but our spirits were still super high! We seemed to start out a little bit slow, probably still waking up, but we picked up steam and began to roll over our opponents. The last game, we started to trade points with our opponents, but we took half then finished up the game strong at 9-4. We then celebrated with some fantastically delicious Macaroni Grill (allthough the general opinion among the girls was that there was entirely too little bread...) Sunday, YaY for no rain and for the sun coming out, our first game was against Wash U. Again we had to wake up a bit in the morning and came out a bit slow. I am proud of the way we fought and didn’t give up on the game. I am also excited that our newer Ninjas got a chance to play in a competitive game! Even though we lost to Wash U, we should not be disappointed in the way we played a high caliber team. As Sunday wore on we played our hearts out! Riddled with 20 minute points and 3-4 inch deep mud, the Ninjas dug deep and pulled out wins. The last two games we really dug our heels in ( the mud) and managed to beat Notre Dame and Luther both in universe point!

We saw lots of layouts and bids for the disc. Notably from some of our newer players, I am so happy that Mary and Becky both tried their hand at laying out. Also the impressive – Andrea already lying on the ground (perhaps from slipping on mud) and miraculously stretching out further to still grab the disc. Sloth had some skying D’s and sick catches! Memorably Sloth and Roads during the Luther game at the end of one of the ridiculously long points seemed to still be running and leaving their defenders in the dust ( or mud rather...) Swenson put on some sick marks on D. Our handlers, Nemo, Andrea, Alyssa, Erika, Jordan, and sometimes Dts, really clicked well on our lines and the d-line handlers adjusted when an o-line handler was circulated into the d-line. Brenna layed out all over the place and Emily started to be comfortable as one of the leaders for the o-line cutters and Ingrid was patient with making her cuts. Sloth, Mary, and Becky, grew leaps and bounds in their abilities in cutting and playing zone D!

Christie and Abby were super awesome both days in leading our team and helped us adjust of offense or defense when the opposing team brought something new to the field. Christie really helped us gain mental focus when we sometimes were in a funk.

Something we did that really helped our team was our very active sideline!!! Our sideline was pivotal in many games and wins. We did use our plays and they worked really well when we ran them right! We know we have some things to work on before Chicago, like adjusting our plays to a backhand force and working on positive mental focus in tough games and enhancing our zone-o further (even though it looked awesome for not practicing it!).

For the Ninjas that couldn't make the tournament or are injured we sure missed you but you were there with us in ninja spirit! Can't wait to see you at the retreat this weekend in sunny Madison!

We are super awesome at Frisbee, ladies!!

The Hotel: Thank you Ingrid for organizing the travel and the hotel, we know it was a big job! I enjoyed the way we utilized the tub on the second night as a clothes washing basin! And I am glad we mingled well with the comicon convention characters also at our hotel. Some of those guys were a hoot! Thank you to the ladies who brought sleeping bags and slept on the floor!

The Drive: The drive down was fun and we definitely bonded (Not the Pooper!!) and learned somethings about each other that we probably didn’t want to know (like whip cream scandals and such). The way home was more subdued. The van stopped to endulge in some much awaited Culvers and nuggets and then we were on our way because we were all pretty tired. Huge, huge kudo’s to the drivers and co-pilots! We really pushed through the exhaustion and late nights! Thank you to Erika and Alyssa for driving that last very late shift getting us safely back to Minneapolis by 3:30 am!

All in all a great weekend for the Ninja’s!!!!

Hey ninja sports fans!
Come out and support your ninjas tomorrow morning from 9am till 1pm in front of Coffman Union and buy some delicious (and local!) Peace Coffee and hot cocoa from us! We are having a fundraiser to support our team and raise awareness about how awesome we are. Be sustainable and bring your own mug or use one of our compostable ones.

Hey all you Ninjas, Ninja fans or first time Ninja-newbies! It's been a while hasn't it? I didn't mean to ignore you, life has just been really crazy! But not to worry, I am back now to update you on all the happenings of the Ninjas and all Ninja related things. We had a busy fall semester, gaining a lot of new players and competing in three tournaments in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. (More details to come) Recently there has been a lot of talking going on about the future of the Ninjas so we are really excited about the upcoming Spring season!

As the days grow colder we will be moving indoors. As of right now we have no specific day but it will most likely be early November. Practices will be held in the field house at the rec center Monday from 9-11:30 pm, and Thursday from 6-8.

Congratulations to our new crew of Ninjas! Fall practices will remain in St. Paul on Thursdays from 4:30-6:30 and at the TCF Bank Stadium on Sundays from 6:00-8:00. We will likely be moving indoors in early November; dates and new practice locations will be discussed at a later date.

In the meantime, our fall tournament schedule will be as follows:

For the first tryout we will be meeting in the mall area on campus. Just look for flying discs and three captains in hunter orange trucker hats. We will move to the river flats (down the stairs behind Coffman) around 4:45, so if you're running late just head to the river flats.

The Monday tryout will be at river flats, and Sunday tryouts will be held at the new TCF Bank Stadium.

Things to bring: cleats, water, black and white jerseys/shirts, enough energy to run around for 2 hours and interested friends!

We'll also be selling Ninja discs ($10/white, $12/blue) so if you want sweet Ninja swag, we'll accept checks or cash money.

The Ninjas held seed and earned 11th place at Regionals this season. There was a reported sighting of Ugly Ducklings sporting full denim outfits while cheering with traditional 90's pop music and their own cheers. Winter Practice

Winter is upon us, so we have been tirelessly been perfecting our ninja skills indoors!

Starting in spring semester, practice times are the following:

Mondays: 9:00-11:00 pm
Thursdays: 6:00-8:00 pm

The first day of spring practice will be January 22nd.

All practices will be held in the fieldhouse, which is attached to the Rec Center on the 1900 block of University Ave.

Things to bring to practice: dark and light jerseys or shirts, water, good tennis shoes, and interested friends!

Mondays will be focused on drills and scrimmaging. Thursdays are track workouts. Saturdays will be focused on drills, agility training and scrimmaging.

Hello lovely ultimate ladies!

We, the Ninjas, would like to welcome you to the new University of Minnesota Women's Ultimate Disc Club website!

We are a competitive yet fun club sport seeking players of all skill levels. Whether you've always enjoyed playing ultimate or are just looking for focused club sport team to join, our women's ultimate team is your ticket.

Fall practices are as follows:

Mondays 4:30-6:30pm
Thursdays 4:30-6:30pm
Saturdays Noon-2:00pm

Monday and Saturday practices are held at the River Flats (just below the stairs behind Coffman Union). Thursdays are at the softball fields on the St. Paul campus. You can't miss the flying discs!

Things to bring to practice:
A black and a white shirt or jersey, water, cleats or tennis shoes, and friends!
